I was really lucky doing my research, I found this great coincidence.

In 2008, Clay Shirky wrote an article about cognitive surplus, and he produced an estimate about how long Wikipedia took to create. His estimate: Wikipedia has taken about one hundred million hours of human thought.

And the domain wikipedia.com was registered about 8 years before Clay Shirky's estimate -- so over about the same period as the time between JFK's speech and the Moon landing.
