And I mean, do we even need an alternative?
I think maybe. A violin isn't simple. It's not easy to pick up, we need lessons.
But we can have maestros.
A pen or a paintbrush. Anyone can draw, anyone can pick up a pen. Not everyone can be a Picasso.
Ditto car engines, and ditto programming and web design actually.
But you can't be a maestro at your iPhone, or your Nest thermostat. And I wonder whether that is a signal that this mode of product design has kind of topped out. Maybe.
So what I'm looking for is something as crude and early as bitmap displays were back in the 1970s. Something that we can work on and keep building on for the next generation.
