What I really wanted to show was this. We know someone who is good at joinery (Robert Simpson), and we asked him to make wooden shapes the size of a mobile phone so that we could hold them and see what happened. This is my favourite.

These two pieces of wood are exactly the same shape, and they slot together, in a pair, to make a smooth surface. There’s no male and female, like there is with a plug and socket. It’s so obvious, like Lego, you can see what to do just by looking and playing.

What this one makes me think of is the pain I go through every time I try to use Bluetooth on my mobile or my computer. I have to pair them by searching for a connection and then typing in numbers and then later I have to remember names.

I’m following rules. I shouldn’t be following a rulebook. The rules should be inherent in the objects. And that’s why I like this wooden shape. It should be on my phone right now. This is how Bluetooth should work.
