I've tried to do this in a really tiny way in Glancing. Usually there's nothing in the menu other than a list of names that are unclickable. But if everyone in the group has glanced within the last 15 minutes, there's a option there too: Chat. And then you can turn the togetherness into an encounter. It opens a group chat window in your IM client.
