2006-11-02 2007 (winter 2006) fashion notes summer was all about texture colours are coming back sarah tells me that glitter is important--that's an important form of textured colour. there's also transparency still lots of texture below the waist (patterned footless tights, legwarmers, stitched skirt, belt, interesting shoes) but that's moving away what's replacing stitching? fields of colour, overlaying one another. tops, cardigans, scarves fairly bold colours, not necessarily matching, often contrasting. very fine textures and patterns. the colours are warm and green/yellowish... autumn palettes with a springtime temperature. green, yellow, lime, purple, white, grey, sky. matching not in hue but in saturation the materials are soft. softer felt, not heavy felt, wool--perhaps influenced by the home-made or just-throw-it-together movements. less leather and artificial fabrics. flows, crumples, pleats. this means a comeback of super baggy necks and almost poncho-style scarfs: i don't think these will stay; it feels like a new-fashion fashion not a retro one patterned tights, footless tights and unpatterned sheers (providing a gradient) seem to be in. fewer boots now, more flats--almost like pumps but smarter. perhaps the tights are warm enough that they can be shown off so, i'm seeing things like: white wooly hat, with pattern. felt coat with scarf, layers of tops, pleated skirt, pattern tights. all different colours: green, white, grey, yellow, blue. flat shoes, brown or beige. i don't think we'll be seeing so many heavy coats in black this year, and denim definitely seems the wrong weight and material--i'm glad skirts are back. emphasis on surfaces that do interesting things to the eye. instead of colours: tight repeating patterns; glitter; silver and gold; planes of overlapping colours. include wool, felt, crochet surfaces in this. outliers: wellington boots.
