2003-06-26 D&G- Misc1 Things to note down from D&G: p234 These two ways of making progress. Firstly, of dividing. There is a, b, c. Secondly, of making analogies. a is like b. One is more treelike, making divisions, the container metaphor. The other is more aspects, rhizomic, identifying densities. Also, a, b, c is the industrial mindset (capitalist?), only aware of the step after and the step before. p347 Different races, with and identified by their own refrains: "nations (the Polish, Auvergnat, German, Magya, or Romanian, but also the Pathetic, Panicked, Vengeful, etc.)" If you can belong or not belong to a nation, then why not these more temporary ones? p328 It's a good description of how a treelike thing (the central nervous system) can also be thought of as a rhizome. There's a post on Tesugen today (or yesterday?) about how cities should be thought more as rhizomes than trees (and by trees that means: section which is comprised of streets and houses which have rooms and people which have furniture and swervers, etc, etc. The container/conduit metaphor again).
